Why a Dovetail Log Home?

Dovetail styles of log homes had immense popularity in Eastern Canada during the late 1800's and many can be found across Canada in great condition after 150 years.

Hand-hewn style log homes with compound-dovetails are built to last. Age old techniques of dovetail joinery and hand-hewing are applied to give every inch of your home customly refined elegance with unparalleled craftsmanship.

The uniform wall thickness of our logs makes our homes energy efficient in a diverse array of climates. Tests by the National Bureau of Standards have shown that log homes have out-performed conventional framed houses in spring, summer and fall and equaled their performance in the winter.

Our handcrafted log homes are not restrictive when planning the décor of your interior. Many handcrafted log homes are intrusive and busy, not allowing for the potential of interior design. The two-sided square logs allow for more light reflection and less dust accumulation. Our hand hewn log walls allow our clients the diversity of design to create their dream home.

A full compound dovetail joint is a very stable, secure, and self locking wall system. No bolts, nails or springs are used or needed. This type of log home incorporates the use of latex chinking in between each round of logs. The chinking comes in a variety of colors and maintains it adhesiveness to the logs and elasticity for several years.

A Log home building is a very honest way to bulid a home. There is no way of short changing on quality in our construction process. This ensures the use of the ideal logs, the proper peeling of the bark, the scribing and cutting of the logs and finally the hewing and planing by hand.

Ultimate care and pride are key elements in our business.

Log homes, and timber frame homes are also proven to be the best type of construction for resale value.

What are the difference between handcrafted and a milled log home?

A: The value of a handcrafted log home is superior to that of a milled log home.

Our logs are individually selected and hand peeled. Scribing and chiseling each log by hand insures that not even a piece of paper can be put between the joints, ensuring each joint is beautiful strong and stable.

We also specialize in much larger diameter logs than our competitors. Milled log homes are run through a molding machine so that every log has the same profile resulting in no variation; therefore the logs are much smaller in size and logs are usually joined together to make full lengths. As a result there is little character in the log structure making the appearance look more like log siding.

Individuality is lost in the mast production of larger log home companies. A handcrafted log home simply feels like a real log home.
