Frequently asked Questions

Do you build the entire home - from foundation to finished product?

Country Log Homes specialty is the "frame" - either timber frame, dovetail or full scribe log home. We can recommend high quality custom subcontractors and work with them as consultants to produce the final product or work with a general contractor and subtrades of your choice.

Country Log Homes constructs your home at our building site, then the materials are disassembled, transported to your lot and re-assembled and erected there.

Are corner styles strictly an aesthetic choice, or does one have a structural advantage over the other?

A: Corner styles can define the look of a log home, and they do vary in complexity, construction, and susceptibility to water penetration.

Generally speaking, the more complex the corner style, the stronger the construction.

A traditional compound dovetail joint is one of the most difficult to make, as well as the strongest and tightest method of joining logs.

How long does it take to build a log home?

A: Construction time will vary Depending on the floor plan and size.

Generally, the shell can be completed in two or three months.

How much maintenance is a log home?

A: Homes built with treated logs will offer you weather proofing unmatched by any other natural material. Log homes retain their beauty through all seasons, with a minimum of maintenance.

How much does it cost?

A: Cost per square foot is comparable to that of a conventional home and will vary with your tastes just as it would with other home construction. Remember no framing, insulating, or dry wall are required on the main floor.

What species of wood is used?

A: We believe that large diameter white pine logs are the best for the construction of a log home because of their unique character and stability.

Can a log home be built on any foundation?

A: Our log homes can be built on any standard foundation from a concrete slab to a full block or poured basement.

How do you run the electrical wiring?

A: During dismantling the logs are numbered and drilled to your specific electrical needs. All wiring will be hidden between the logs and electrical boxes are cut into the log face for a clean flush look.

Are log homes energy efficient?

Wood has a high thermal mass, which means it holds heat well. Wood is also an excellent insulator. A well-built log home is very comfortable and energy efficient with an R-20 insulation value.

Natural insulation- Air cells in the wood fibers provide one of the best forms of insulation from either hot or cold.

Log homes are cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
